Patricia Wright has investigated the history of the site on which Buckingham Palace now stands, uncovering many surprising and entertaining tales of (among others) a witch who once lived there, many scoundrels and fraudsters, some royal disasters and a lady with exploding bosoms. She also provides a brief overview of the surrounding area, including Westminster Abbey whose monks once owned the site, earlier residences and the remarkably dubious history of St James’s Palace.
Patricia qualified and practised as a chartered surveyor and land agent. However with family commitments and frequent moves this became impractical so she retrained to teach, which she did for several years whilst also developing a career as a writer initially of historical articles and then books, both fiction and non-fiction. One of these won the Bodley Head historical novel prize, another was an alternate choice for the US Literary Guild and several were translated into other languages. She has lectured for nearly 20 years for NADFAS and other adult groups, as well as on cruise-ships.
