Join scientists, artists and writers to explore and celebrate our cultural, historical and scientific connection to the ocean.

Sounding The Sea includes authors China Miéville and Philip Hoare, artists Bik Van der Pol and Mariele Neudecker, producer of new film Plastic Oceans Jo Ruxton, marine biologists and ocean campaigners; Professor Alex Rogers, University of Oxford, Dr Magnus Johnson, University of Hull, and many others.

Thought-provoking talks, participatory workshops, artist performances and film screenings will cover issues of critical importance to our future and the health of the oceans. Topics include: climate change, rising sea levels, marine life, and our cultural ties to the sea.

Tours of the following exhibitions will also be available:

Offshore: Artists explore the sea at Ferens Art Gallery and Hull Maritime Museum curated by Invisible Dust

Somewhere Becoming Sea at Humber Street Gallery curated by Steven Bode, supported by Film and Video Umbrella. Part of Hull UK City of Culture 2017.

Please note the event on 15 June takes place at Ferens Art Gallery and Hull Maritime Museum.
The event on 16 June will take place at Middleton Hall, University of Hull.
