We Are Awayke – The 12th Instalment of Aceness
At age 5 Ruth Theodore was told that she would never physically be able to play guitar. Following a sledging accident, aged 9, she was left unable to speak. Yet by the age of 14 Ruth was earning money as a singer and guitarist playing in music bars & venues almost every night of the week. Her use of unconventional techniques and unique tuning structure has bewildered guitarists.
The Dyr Sister is an astoundingly original musician from Hull. Her catalogue of haunting, ethereal modern day folk, portrays a fascinating canvas of sound. Her innovative pieces are influenced by a wide range of genres including jungle, dubstep and trip hop. Her instruments of choice are viola, mandolin, voice, sampler and a rumble.
Elle Grice also from Hull was dragged up on folk (Transatlantic), prog rock (British), overwrought opera (German), and poetry (Modernist). In her own words Elle is a semi-functioning adult who taught herself a three-chord-trick on a Suzuki classical guitar in a seaside cottage in Dorset.
This will be a lovely relaxed evening of quality. Bring a pen and paper and draw the music if you want.
