It’s been 30 years since those young guns returned from Ibiza with a stack of Balearic tunes to play in legendary clubs Shoom, The Warehouse and The Hacienda, creating their own youth culture and capturing the minds of a generation. What was it all about? What did it mean? What’s next on the radar?
The Psychedlic Disco Tech are answering these questions. Join the Disco Tech and a panel of experts as they make themselves comfortable at Früit, for a frank and level headed discussion on the impact of rave culture.
We will look at the fear that a musical movement provoked, by the introduction of the Criminal Justice Act 1998, banning “repititive beats”, making gatherings illegal and criminalising young people.
What have we gained? What is the legacy of rave culture? The panel will explore the idea of rave culture as the second summer of love, and whether the movement had a political agenda and a transcendent purpose. It will also look into whether rave culture has impacted today’s club culture. They tackle these issues and more, whilst taking a trip down musical memory lane, courtesy of Hull’s own DJ Roscoe.
