‘Richard Bean: Hull Playwright?’ – Dr Victoria Dawson
On Friday 29th September 2017, live on BBC Radio 4’s Front Row, filmmaker and writer Dave Lee accused Hull’s Richard Bean of now being ‘a London playwright’, banishing him from the canon of local writers. In this talk, Victoria will take up the case for the defence, examining what makes a “Hull playwright” and arguing that, despite global success, Hull remains an integral part of Richard Bean’s literary DNA.

Over the course of both ‘Hull: History, Culture, Place’ series it has become clear that our audiences are not only very enthusiastic about Hull and its history, but are also very knowledgeable. To celebrate the end of series of talks, the second half of the session will be handed over to three of our regular attendees who have offered to speak for us on a topic they are knowledgeable about.
Please note this event has been extended to 1.30 to cater for our additional speakers.
