Summary

In this seminar, hosted by the Institute of Applied Ethics, Dr. Gregg Caruso will examine the concept of free will scepticism – the idea that what we do, and the way we are, is ultimately the result of factors beyond our control and that because of this we are never morally responsible for our actions in the basic desert sense.

After considering critiques of this world view he will go on to argue that life without free will is not only possible but also preferable. Gregg will conclude by introducing and defending his non–retributive approach to criminal behaviour.
