Discover pockets of artistic wonder as Humber Street Gallery sets out to ignite the imaginations of our younger generations through games, installations, performances and workshops.
Humber Street Gallery offers a programme of exhibitions and events to engage all people in a contemporary art discussion. For the weekend of the 28 October, as part of the Family Arts Festival, Humber Street Gallery will host a programme of playful and engaging events for all the family. Exploring themes of place and shelter you will experience games, installations, performances and workshops throughout the three floors – creating pockets of wonder and fun to occupy the minds of the younger generation.
In addition, Humber Street Gallery is offering a one night only sleepover. Camp out amongst the exhibitions, join in with camp fire songs and stories whilst sipping hot chocolate from our café. An artist-led session, there will be activities to keep you entertained before bedding down beside some of the best art in the country.
Saturday
Jon Kean – Create a Giant Map of Hull
Based on an historic map of Hull, help create our own version of the city with drawings and post-it notes, using a variety of materials from paint and pastels to collage. Everyone’s work will be brought together to create an amazing final collaboration.
Helen Steele – Cardboard City
Let imaginations run free as you and your children build your own free-standing city with card, ribbons and raffia. Build your structure to be as large or small, as simple or elaborate as you wish to create.
Miranda Harr – Photography Workshop
Learn about simple photography ideas and techniques, through play and discussion, focussing on food, colour and the city. Explore composition, light, simple portraiture and what makes Hull, Hull! You can use your smartphone to practice taking pictures, and even leave with a print of your masterpiece.

Sarah Johnson – Build the Future of Travel
Design and create futuristic cars, trains, boats and even spaceships, driven by handmade robots and superheroes to take home.
Lilly Williams – Create Your Own Road Signs
What would you like to see on a road sign? Your blank canvas awaits. Paint and decorate circles and triangles with anything you’d like from abstract patterns to words, animals or faces.
