Courtney Pine – tenor saxophone/EWI, Omar Lye-Fook – vocals, Robert Mitchell – piano/organ, Robert Fordjour – drums and Vidal Montgomery – bass Multi-instrumentalist
Courtney Pine CBE is a British-born Jazz Giant. In the 80’s he was one of the first black British jazz artists to make a serious mark on the jazz scene when his first album made the top 40. Since then, he’s had numerous BBC Jazz Awards as well as MOBOs and a Mercury Music Prize nomination and he’s remained at the forefront of UK jazz.
For his latest project, Black Notes from the Deep, he returns to the tenor saxophone for the first time in 10 years. The album also sees him collaborate with UK soul star Omar, whose 1992 hit single There’s Nothing Like This established an instantly recognisable sound that’s earned him widespread critical acclaim and seen him collaborate with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, Carleen Anderson and Angie Stone. Join us for a very special evening that sees two legends of the UK jazz and soul scenes performing original material together for the first time.
