Summary

The Bransholme estate covers a large geographical area to the north of the city. Created in 1967 as a post-Second World War rehousing project, it represents an important part of Hull’s heritage.

Artists from Bransholme Community Arts Enterprise (BCAE) will use, art, stories, photography, video and performance to bring together people of all ages to celebrate Bransholme’s 50th birthday. Building heritage and aspirations through exhibitions, achieves, publications and events.

A trail of permanent public art around Bransholme will commemorate the estate’s 50th anniversary. The Bransholme 50 trail will feature sculptured concrete slabs carved by renowned artist Mark Powers. Marking out places of historical or cultural interest, they will also reflect personal stories and aspirations.

Art Workshops making flags and designing a flag for Bransholme

13 June, 12.30pm – 4pm. Bodmin Road Church, Roebank Arcade, Hull.
14 June, 10am – 1pm. Bransholme Community Arts Enterprise, Dorchester Primary School, Dorchester Road, Hull.

Part of a site specific multi-disciplinary artwork touring to Leeds, Eastbourne, Hull, Scarborough and Southport.

Inspired by the ‘Guiding Lights’ and navigation systems of Trinity House, the work explores the states of location and dislocation, for individuals and communities, to ‘place’ and identity – physically, culturally, emotionally and spiritually. These works will be displayed at North Point Shopping Centre at the Bransholme 50/50 event (16 June).

 

Bransholme 50/50: Ceremony and Exhibition

16 June, 2.30pm. North Point Shopping Centre, Goodhart Road, Hull.

To mark 50 years of Bransholme, Bransholme Community Arts Enterprise asked local children to think about the future and select items to be placed in a time capsule which will be opened in 50 years time on Bransholme’s centenary. Children from each of these schools will gather at North Point Shopping Centre for a short (colourful and noisy) ceremony to hand over the items to preserved for posterity.
