In 2014, when Richard was awarded second prize in the BP Portrait Award, art critic Ben Luke, writing in the London Evening Standard, said his painting had an elusive, poetic quality. “”It reminds me of the painter Howard Hodgkin’s description of Degas’ great portrait of Helene Rouart in the National Gallery – that it has that “”glancing, slightly dematerialised quality that one does actually see in reality.’ Come and listen to the challenges and the obstacles Richard faced and how these shaped him into the person he is today.
