Summary

Art Celebrating Equality is a radical, new arts festival from The Warren Youth Project. Building on its pilot success at 2016 Freedom Festival – community groups, young women and artists have united to create a women-led arts festival to explore gender, equality and freedom. Working with national and local women artists, The Warren will facilitate workshops across Hull, empowering Hull’s young men and women to create art around gender equality and Freedom.

Award-winning artists, including Joanne Coates, Catherine Scott and Indigo Moon Theatre, will deliver online and open workshops to young people – creating photographic images, digital illustrations, poems, spoken word, shadow performances and to top it off a projection of the art created on The Warren’s building.

The workshops are for 16-25 year olds and are as follows:

As part of the 2017 Freedom Festival, performances will feature backdrops of projected images from numerous art forms that challenge gender inequality and celebrate the lives of young people. Shadow theatre and spoken word performances will take place as part of the festival on 1 and 2 September in addition to projections and a photography and art exhibition.

Award Winning  Artists will deliver open workshops to young people – creating photographic images, digital  illustrations, poems, spoken word and shadow performances  that will be shown inside The Warren over the weekend of the festival. The spoken word performances will feature in the Freedom Festival Speak Out tent and images and footage from participants in the project will be collated into a new visual artwork projected onto The Warren building  on the 1 and 2 September.
