Anna Meredith is a composer, producer and performer of both acoustic and electronic music. Her sound is often described as ‘maximalist’, ‘uncategorisable’ and ‘genre-hopping’ and straddles the worlds of contemporary classical, avant pop, electronica and experimental rock. Originally commissioned by Southbank Centre in 2010, the performance of the Concerto at the New Music Biennial 2017 will star beatbox soloist MaJiKer. The piece is an acclaimed modern classical work recognising the human voice box as a musical instrument.

Anna Meredith said: “Really excited to be putting together my Beatbox Concerto again and to be included alongside such a great list of other composers.”

This 15-minute piece will be performed twice, with a short Q&A session with the composer between the performances.
