Darryl has been Chief Executive of three local authorities. He retired as Chief Executive of the multi award-winning East Riding of Yorkshire Council, which he set up from scratch, in 1995.

In 2012 was asked by Hull City Council to provide strategic leadership at a time of considerable uncertainty but also considerable opportunity but retired from this position recently.  Darryl has spoken at national and international conferences on his wide-ranging experience and expertise, including leadership and development, customer focus, e-government, communications, economic regeneration, organisational structures, cost effectiveness and value for money and change management.

He has also been appointed Deputy Lieutenant for the County of the East Riding of Yorkshire, a visiting professor at the University of Hull Business School and was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Law from that University.
