Editor of the Hull Daily Mail, representing the City Leadership Board

He joined the company in 2011 from CN Media Limited where he was editorial director. He began his career in journalism in 1979 and has worked in national and regional media, with previous posts including editor at the Lancashire Evening Post and the Yorkshire Evening Post. He has collected five UK Newspaper Of The Year awards over the years.

As a member of Hull’s City Leadership Board, Neil is involved in overseeing the development of the City Plan, which launched in 2013 and aims to create 7,500 jobs over a 10-year period. He has a keen interest in regeneration, having spent the first 21 years of his life in Fleetwood – another fishing port trying to reinvent itself – and was a founder member of the Leeds Initiative Board formed to revamp Leeds in the early 1990s. Married with a 14-year-old son, Neil lives locally and is also a qualified junior rugby union coach.

“I take this position very seriously and aim to ensure that everyone in the city benefits from City of Culture status, and not just a privileged few. We must help create a legacy of aspiration, not only from celebratory events but also from the jobs and economic growth it can help deliver.”
