Headquartered in Hull, Arco is a family-owned business and the leading safety company in the UK. We believe that everyone has a basic human right to go to work each day and come home to their loved ones safely. Arco is here to help our customers do just that by offering expert advice, guidance and a range of quality products to help prevent accidents in the workplace and save lives. Since the company was first formed over 130 years ago, Arco has continued to grow and we now have a network of sales offices and 49 retail stores across the country. Arco is able to understand what businesses need, from large national companies with sites across the country; to smaller specialist businesses we can offer knowledge, support and service in their locality.
Arco constantly evolves and today we play a leading role in contributing to the debate on the future strategy for health and safety management in the workplace, helping to shape the safety world. Product quality and assurance are at the forefront of our product development and customer offering and we are the only safety company in the UK to have invested in our own independently accredited Product Assurance Laboratory based in Hull.
Arco has recently launched its apprenticeship programme to provide locally talented young people opportunities in Customer Service, Logistics, and the recently opened Product Assurance Laboratory, providing a supportive career path for them whilst at the same time building a future pipeline of experts.
Arco plans to launch our programme in September 2016. This will be a two-year programme with successful apprentices being offered a permanent position in year three.
As one of the leading businesses in the region, Arco is deeply committed to supporting a wide range of local charitable organisations and community programmes. It is a responsibility we relish and take seriously. We provide our colleagues with the opportunity to give back to their local communities, by giving them two days’ each year to volunteer with organisations close to their hearts.
Hull is a vibrant hub for business and the City of Culture programme will help put us firmly on the map as a destination city. In recognition of the business potential, Arco has recently invested £4 million upgrading our National Distribution Centre.
Arco is a major partner and the official volunteer uniform supplier, utilising local expertise combined with financial backing from the business to kit out the 4000+ volunteers for the year. Arco is extremely honoured to share our expertise in support of Hull City of Culture 2017. We are proud that the design and supply of the garments has been conducted within the city.
The bespoke designs have been created by Arco’s own Clothing Technologist and Designers Kirby Griffiths and Tertia Beaney. The team has experience in supplying volunteer garments having worked on the London 2012 Olympic and 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow uniforms.
The uniforms will include polo shirts, a 3 in 1 soft shell and waterproof jacket combination, and a baseball cap in 2017 ‘scandalous blue’ ‘ludicrous purple’ and ‘deep mischievous pink’ – the City of Culture colours. Volunteers will also be issued with black cargo pants and shorts.
With a portfolio of uniform designs for projects like The London 2012 Olympics, the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, the BLOODHOUND supersonic car team, Her Majesty’s Passport Office, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and for companies such as the London Taxi Company and Card Factory, Arco has applied its expertise to create a range of garments that are visible, distinctive and unifying for the team.
