Partnerships & Development Manager

THE ROLE

We’re looking for an experienced Partnerships & Development Manager or fundraiser to secure funding that will deliver the legacy arising from Hull UK City of Culture, focusing on the three-year period from 2018 to 2020. With an excellent track record of obtaining funds from corporate sponsors, charitable trusts & foundations, high net worth individuals, National Lottery distributors and public sector organisations, you will manage a varied portfolio of supporters and develop new funding prospects.

Based in Hull and with occasional travel to other cities across the UK, you will have experience of working with private and public sector funders, ideally gained within an arts and cultural context. You will be confident and entrepreneurial, able to instil a sense of credibility, and create and pitch the proposition for Hull’s future. This is a fantastic opportunity to build on the success of 2017 by helping to plan, coordinate and implement new fundraising and partnership activity for a city with big plans.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Head of Partnerships & Development, you will be responsible for the day to day management of relationships with a portfolio of corporate, public and charitable funders. You will identify and approach potential funders in Hull and across the UK to initiate partnership discussions and identify opportunities. You will also be responsible for supporting and coordinating ongoing partnership activity, including corporate social responsibility, employee engagement, and marketing and PR activations.

– Work with the Head of Partnerships & Development to implement the strategic plan to raise income to support the delivery of Culture Company’s activity during 2018–2020.
– Own agreed income targets for several large funders/partnerships and deliver against them.
– Create a comprehensive prospect list of corporate partners.
– Develop an evidence base for funding applications to prepare fundraising proposals and applications to the highest professional level.
– Ensure that all partnership approaches are consistently well researched, presented and followed through.
– Monitor industry information and take an active role in identifying opportunities for funding.
– Maintain meticulous funder and prospect history records and files.
– Manage day to day elements of partnerships, including acting as a first point of contact with partners.
– Coordinate and monitor the delivery of agreed rights and benefits to partners, and prepare regular progress reports.
– Collate information required for reporting to funders, prepare and submit funding and evaluation reports, and ensure that all reporting deadlines are met.
– Plan and deliver events to cultivate and maintain relationships with partners / funders, such as programme launches, VIP meetings and previews.
– Work closely with partners and internal colleagues to support and coordinate a variety of partnership activities, including corporate social responsibility, employee engagement initiatives, and marketing / PR campaigns.
– Represent Culture Company at external events / conferences and act as an ambassador for the city, protecting and promoting its reputation at all times.
– Undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Head of Partnerships & Development.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

– Of graduate calibre, with a minimum of 3 years’ experience of working in a development or fundraising environment, ideally within the arts / cultural sector.
– A proven track record in securing major (five or six-figure) grants or sponsorships.
– Knowledge of the UK public funding landscape especially the private sector.
– Well established network of active corporates and supporters within the arts and cultural sector, ideally in Hull.
– Ability to form a strong case for support, and to tailor proposals to match funders’ needs.
– Excellent interpersonal skills, including persuasion, diplomacy, networking and the ability to represent the organisation effectively to senior decision makers and high profile individuals.
– Ability to work on own initiative, and to be proactive in developing proposals and in solving problems.
– Excellent written and spoken communication skills, with the ability to create innovative and persuasive presentations and written proposals.
– Outstanding planning, project management and organisational skills, including the ability to deliver to multiple priorities while retaining a thorough attention to detail.
– IT literate, with proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
– Able to work evening and weekend hours as required.
