Community Brand Case Study: Hanover Residents Association

Hanover Court was built in 1982 and has 74 flats for people aged 60 and over.

It’s for people who are still very much independent but who want the security and support of living in sheltered housing. It’s a wonderful community but sometimes it can get a little lonely, especially if you live on your own.

So members of staff and residents have come together to create Hanover Court Residents’ Association. They organise frequent social activities like coffee mornings, charity events and trips to the theatre. They’ve also recently started a bingo morning where residents can get together for a cream tea, a natter and good game – Bakers Bun that sounds fun!

They are still planning what they would like to do for Hull 2017 but are looking at ways to make sure the residents hear about the events and shows that will be on as part of UK City of Culture, as well as making sure that residents can get to them. With no time to waste, members of staff are already encouraging the residents to make the most of Hull’s culture in 2016 with a noticeboard that’s full of things to see.
