Transgression: Breaking the Rules Festival Lineup Announced

Experience Dance like never before with a weekend of performance, talks and debates in Hull’s first ever Contemporary Dance Festival.

Hull Dance invite you to see the City of Hull come to life with a weekend of phenomenal performances from both local and international dance artists, as well as films, talks and debates which will take place in unusual settings, right in the heart of the City.

Transgression: Breaking the Rules ( 12 – 14 May 2017) is a festival which has been curated by local professional dancers, who all came together to share their ideas for what ‘Dance’ they would like to see come to their City.

Festival highlights include artist Rita Marcalo, director of UK based company Instant Dissidence will be inviting participants to dance with her as she exchanges the stories of refugees she met in ‘The Jungle’ camp in Calais.

As well as presenting the family Show We Are The Monsters, Colette Sadler will be hosting a workshop for professional dancers. Colette Sadler will also perform her Notebook Series, developed over 6 years it explores the altering perception of the human body. In a world of smart phones and devices that can do everything from turn on your lights to order your shopping imagine if your laptop actually began to interact with you. One human and a laptop sit on a simple table with a lamp.  It is intriguing, enthralling and a little unnerving.

Hull Dance are delighted to present Belonging, a chance to be part of a brand new and exciting performance created by prize winning director, choreographer and performer Jo Fong.

Experience a ‘snapshot of dance’ as one of the city’s oldest venues sees acrobatics and dance combine in this breath-taking performance from theMiddletonCorpus. Creating living sculpture, catch the company’s mesmerising performance in the beautiful surroundings of St Mary’s Church. Their performance Cloud sees bodies transform between human and abstract forms, drifting through space like weightless clouds.
