Magical musical tipis come to Hull’s outdoor summer events

Free exhibition and world-music workshops for young people and families.

Tipis will be appearing all over Hull as part of a fabulous project this summer as part of Hull 2017’s Creative Communities Programme.

Sound And Vision will bring installations created by young people and housed in tipis to community-based outdoor events in the east, west and north of Hull, during the summer holiday period.

Not only an exhibition, the tipis will also act as workshops for children to make weird and exciting music using magical instruments from all over the world.

These creative world music workshops – led by a professional artist and musician – are free and open to all ages and abilities.

Sound And Vision organiser Liz Woolmington said: “This is a great opportunity for all the community to enjoy being creative together.”

Councillor Phil Webster, Hull City Council portfolio holder for learning, skills and safeguarding children, said: “Working with a lead artist, these friendly and relaxed workshops are a fantastic way for young people across the city to get involved in the UK City of Culture programme and unleashing their creative talent and seen by many people.”

Martin Green, director of Hull 2017, said: “We hope to inspire the next generation of creative thinkers by getting children involved in Hull 2017, not only through our No Limits learning programme, but also through our core artistic programme.  Sound And Vision offers children the opportunity to unleash their talent by working with a professional artist and musician and is a brilliant way to keep them and their families entertained during the summer holidays.”
