Live your business, Join the Club

We at Hull 2017 know that business doesn’t need to be boring… and why should yours be any different? The opportunity to meet like-minded and ambitious local businesses is an exciting way to inspire, educate and improve the mindsets of you and your company whilst helping to raise the profile of the city. So what better way to do this than with Hull 2017’s Business Club? Let’s get started.

Everyone knows that 2017 is all about Hull. This means our local businesses play a vital part in our story and equally our success. Joining an inspirational, forward-thinking collective such as the Business Club will help businesses to grow in profile and to build an extraordinary legacy for the city. We provide a huge voice for local businesses, and this is your chance to be part of something very special. Building on the incredible success of the Hull UK City of Culture Bid Angels scheme, which saw 22 of the region’s businesses each pledge £17,000 towards Hull’s bid for City of Culture status, this remarkable new platform will help allow businesses to show their support for Hull 2017.

The Business Club was launched in February 2016 by High Steward of Hull the Rt Hon. Lord Mandelson, who believes ‘It is now up to all sectors to continue working together to make the most of every opportunity that Hull 2017 brings’. At the launch we welcomed 100 eager and enthusiastic Hull and East Yorkshire business leaders (including many of our local business champions the Bid Angels) to the stunning setting of The University of Hull’s newly redeveloped Brynmor Jones Library. The event was a fantastic opportunity for businesses to understand how they can contribute in their own unique way to the legacy of Hull 2017. Vice Chancellor of Hull 2017 partner the University of Hull, noted the considerable amount of positive impact that partnership with Hull 2017 has delivered for the University, including ‘increased student applications and satisfaction rates’.

Strawberry are a leading full-service creative agency based in Hull and East Yorkshire, and were our first Business Club member to come on board. Strawberry see Hull’s year as UK City of Culture as a ‘massive opportunity’ to project their brand and all of their team will ‘be able to participate next year as volunteers’. As well as Strawberry, chartered accountancy firm Smailes Goldie have also joined, who believe ‘It’s about name awareness and us putting ourselves forward as one of the premier firms in the region. We see the Business Club as a statement that we are supporting the region.’ 2017 marks a major milestone for Business Club member Hudgells Solicitors too, as it will be their 20th year in business; ‘There is no better way for us to celebrate,’ Hudgells Solicitors’ Group Head of Operations Michelle Maltby told us, ‘than by being part of the City of Culture team, proudly shouting about our city’.

To join this fantastic new partnership initiative, we ask you to invest a fixed sponsorship fee, with an option to phase your payments. This will guarantee you direct association with the Hull 2017 programme right up until 2020 with all the necessary marketing materials you need to start raising your game. This includes a specially designed brand mark for exclusive use by the Business Club collective, which will instantly help you make your mark within the city.

We’ll also be sure to recognise your business on the Hull 2017 website and social media channels over the next two years, with access to a range of benefits including hospitality, tickets, marketing and staff engagement. It doesn’t stop there though… we’ll also allocate you complimentary tickets to events throughout the year… Sounds pretty good right?

If you happen to be a smaller business, fear not: spread the word and get your employees to sign up to our volunteer programme to offer practical event support and welcome our visitors to the city. Or if that doesn’t take your fancy, get your colleagues to sign up to our newsletter to keep up to date with all future partnership opportunities… we’re also developing a plan to recognise and support smaller, local businesses to make the most of 2017 so we’ll keep you guys updated. Remember this isn’t an exclusive club, we’re in this together.

The Business Club is not just about business. We want to leave a legacy that we can all celebrate and share, and ultimately, show everything Hull has to offer… we’re with you all the way.

If you just want to find out more, feel free to have an informal chat with Louise Babych on 01482 304410 who will give you the low down. We look forward to welcoming you aboard.
