We’ve rounded up some of the best live streamed productions, coming soon to a cinema near you.

Broadcast live from some of the world’s greatest theatres, live streaming events like NT Live and ROH Live see top class productions beamed to arts centres and cinemas around the UK, Europe and beyond. They give everyone the opportunity to see outstanding (and usually sold out) performances that otherwise wouldn’t make it out of theatres. The standard is high, and these upcoming shows are no exception.

The following shows can be seen across various venues in Hull including Cineworld, Hull Truck Theatre, Vue, Odeon and Parkway Beverley, and they’re sure to have you shouting for an encore.

Obsession

11 May 2017, 7.30pm | £11.50 – £18.99

Jude Law shines in this live stage adaptation of Luchino Visconti’s classic 1943 film Obsession. It tells a chilling tale of passion and destruction as Gino (Jude Law), embarks upon a fiery affair with a married woman. Infatuated with each other, the pair plot to kill Giovanna’s husband, resulting in disaster. The production’s minimal staging is effortlessly stylish. It’s a rare opportunity to see the distinct style of Ivo van Hove and theatre company Toneelgroep Amsterdam in the comfort of your own city.

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

18 May 2017, 7pm | £11.50 – £18.99

Imelda Staunton and Conleth Hill scintillate in James Macdonald’s new production of Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, portraying a couple hellbent on one another’s destruction. Marital bliss this play is not. Early morning, after-party drinks deteriorate as the liquor flows and things take a distinctly dark turn. Staunton and Hill’s calculated snipes toward each other are played out with breath-taking venom and zeal, adding to the play’s high energy. Having received huge critical acclaim, this is one play you won’t want to miss.

Antony & Cleopatra

The Royal Shakespeare Company brings you one of the greats, Anthony & Cleopatra. Director Iqbal Khan presents a production for Shakespeare purists with top-notch, traditional set and costume design. The insatiable Cleopatra (Josette Simon), has ensnared Mark Antony at the height of his powers into a life of indulgence. Antony (James Corrigan), torn between love and duty leads the couple down a tragic path. This exceptional production is the perfect opportunity to catch an RSC Shakespeare classic.

The Dream / Symphonic Variations / Marguerite and Armand

In salute to 70 years at the Royal Opera House, the Royal Ballet are celebrating with this outstanding mixed programme. Prepare to have your breath taken away by world class performance.

The Dream / Symphonic Variations / Marguerite and Armand is a medley made up of the most loved and characteristic choreographies of founder Frederick Ashton. The Dream is a bewitching adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream with music by Mendelssohn. Symphonic Variations is a ballet with just six dancers never leaving the stage; accompanied by brooding piano and orchestra, the choreography is a celebration of pure dance. The last in the line-up, Marguerite and Armand is a narrative of tragedy and passion, telling a tale of budding romance.

Peter Pan

One for children and adults alike. Neverland is playfully brought to life in this co-production from National Theatre and Bristol Old Vic theatre, directed by Sally Cookson. Whether you’re reminiscing about a time when you thought you were young enough to fly or looking for something to enchant the kids, this imaginative production holds a modern twist thanks to intelligent female characterisations.

Otello

28 June 2017, 7.15pm | £10.50 – £18.80

If you fancy yourself some high culture, renowned opera composer and master Giuseppe Verdi’s final tragedy Otello will astound. Adapted from Shakespeare’s Othello, the poetry of the play is reflected in Verdi’s flair as a composer and music dramatist alongside the dynamism of ballet. Don’t worry if you haven’t quite got your head around opera, just sit back and let the sheer scale and range of the music overwhelm.

Angels In America Part 1: Millennium Approaches

20 July, 7pm | £11.50 – £18.99

America in the mid-1980s. During the AIDS crisis and a conservative Reagan administration, New Yorkers grapple with life and death, love and sex, heaven and hell. This play feels as current now as it did then and with an exceptional cast, the story is achingly human and otherworldly all at once. Ghostly apparitions paired with real-life history and politics make for a riveting watch. With Andrew Garfield (Silence, Hacksaw Ridge) in a lead role, this cast is star-studded indeed.
