We’re inviting everyone Back To Ours for another show-stopping festival this February half term.
The kids may have only just gone back to school but with less than five weeks to go until they break up again, we’re bringing back our incredible festival to a neighbourhood near you. Taking place from Tue 13 to Sun 18 Feb, Back To Ours promises to keep the whole family entertained throughout the half term holidays.
Tickets for the festival go on sale on our website from 12pm on Wed 10 Jan and can also be purchased at our remote box office in Hull Interchange from 12pm to 6pm, where we’ll have performances running throughout the day to surprise and delight.
Festival director Louise Yates said: “Back To Ours was one of the success stories of last year, with over 8,000 tickets sold for 85 events across February, May/June and October/November half-term holidays.
“We are delighted to be back transforming community venues into big tops, theatres and comedy clubs again. From aerial extravaganzas to family-friendly shows about giant loo rolls and amazing bubbles, this year expect even more magical moments and laughs for the whole family.”
On the line-up for February is The Amazing Bubble Man, set to enchant and delight you with bubbles of all shapes and sizes. From square bubbles to bubbles in bubbles, fog-filled bubbles and even people inside bubbles, we’re sure you’ll be giggling and gasping in amazement.
Thrillingly spectacular circus skills blend with slapstick comedy, theatrical storytelling and clowning in Hotel Paradiso, a colourful aerial show. Meet Madame and the charming staff of the quirkily ineffective hotel, along with their arch enemy, the dastardly Banker, who schemes to repossess them. The cast of six mind-blowing acrobats, clowns and jugglers tell us how the hotel’s tenants battle to save their livelihood and home. Accompanied by a specially written musical score by renowned composer and multi-instrumentalist Roger Eno, this thrilling show by Lost In Translation Circus is not to be missed.
Step into the magical, animated world of Claymation with two of Nick Park’s best-loved films, Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit: The Cure Of The Were-Rabbit. There’ll be a chance to make your very own Claymation character in an animation workshop before grabbing some popcorn and cosying up to watch the drama unfold.
Sheffield-based Reverend & The Makers will be shaking Back To Ours up with their distinctive fusion of indie rock, electro and dance music. Formed by vocalist and songwriter Jon McClure – mentor to Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner – the band’s debut album The State Of Things made them a household name, with UK Top 10 single Heavyweight Champion Of the World shaking the music world by the scruff of the neck.
Adapted by the original book by Nicholas Allan, The Giant’s Loo Roll tells the dramatic story of a giant’s runaway toilet roll bouncing down a hill and heading straight for the townsfolk living below. Luckily, the town townsfolk find lots of uses for runaway loo paper, but what about the giant? Watch out for some frightened sheep, lots of excited children and oodles of toilet paper in this rip-roaring children’s musical.
Bringing more comedy gold is Jed Salisbury and Gary Jennison from Hull Comedy Festival, who promise to keep the whole family laughing with Jeddybear and Gary’s Picnic.
And if that wasn’t enough, we’ll be hosting another critically acclaimed comedy character at our hugely popular Secret Gig, so get your tickets booked pronto!
Katy Fuller, creative director of the Culture Company, which was set up to deliver the Hull 2017 programme and will carry on as a permanent national arts company, said: “Back To Ours is a festival that has really resonated with the people of Hull.
“It is something that has been developed in partnership with venues in the heart of local communities who really understand the needs and wants of the people who live and work in those areas.
“It has been fantastic to watch it grow in ambition and audience numbers and I’m excited to welcome it back in 2018.”
Back To Ours takes place from Tue 13 Feb to Sun 18 Feb. Tickets go on sale from 12pm on Wed 10 Jan 2018 online and at our remote box office in Hull Interchange.
