Hull Truck Theatre has a long and rich history of attracting premium comedy acts to the city, and its upcoming season is no exception. This autumn, the venue’s main auditorium, The Heron, will host four hilarious shows from the industry’s hottest names, including a star from the incredibly popular RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Fans of Jeremy Hardy will be delighted to hear that the comedy stalwart is returning to Hull Truck Theatre on Saturday 15 September. Now in his fourth decade of delivering sharp and politically-fuelled stand-up, Jeremy is also known for regular appearances on Mock the Week, Grumpy Old Men, The News Quiz and I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue. If you’ve never seen him before, this is the perfect chance to discover what you’ve been missing out on all these years.
Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Seann Walsh has returned from his run in America, where he made his USA television debut appearance on Conan. This dishevelled, fiery, animated, fiercely idle, millennial man-child brings his new show After This One, I’m Going Home to Hull Truck Theatre on Tuesday 18 September. Audiences are sure to love his critically acclaimed physical comedy abilities.
A new stand-up show from multi award-winning comedian Marcus Brigstocke is also on the cards. Devil May Care on Friday 2 November looks at how, we as we divide each other up into more and more unpleasant categories of evil, it is time to establish, once and for all, what is good and what is bad. Expect masterful satire that isn’t afraid to tackle Brexit, Feminazis and even Piers Morgan.
Winner of season five of RuPaul’s Drag Race, Jinkx Monsoon is visiting Hull with lyrical genius Major Scales to showcase new music from their upcoming album. However, Jinkx worries that her best years are behind her, so Major must act as both pianist and therapist to the Manic Miss Monsoon. Music and mental health collide in this witty, biting look at the dark side of drag fame on Tuesday 20 November.
Tickets are now on sale for these four fantastic comedy spectaculars, which treat audiences to everything from heated debates to gravity-defying hairstyles. To find out more about Hull Truck Theatre’s comedy line-up, please visit www.hulltruck.co.uk or call the box office on 01482 323638.
