Our preview of who’s who at Hull’s newest music festival.
HU1 festival is taking place this weekend where a whole bunch of world class DJs will take centre stage at Zebedee’s Yard. Alongside various top acts, there will be a carnival vibe featuring a Caribbean steel band, carnival dancers and street performers to keep everyone entertained.
Here is a mini rundown of just a selection of the top acts bringing the party vibes this weekend.
DJ Luck @ MC Neat
Legendary garage act DJ Luck (Joel Samuels) and MC Neat (Michael Rose) best known for their big tunes including With a Little Bit of Luck, MasterBlaster and Piano Loco will bring a whole load of party bangers this Saturday.
After receiving a load of hype from his 2013 release Antenna featuring Wyclef Jean, Afrobeats artist FUSE ODG is continuing to make waves right now. The rapper has also featured on Tinchie Stryder’s single Imperfection and during a recent trip to Mumbai, the London based rapper also collaborated with two massive Asian musicians Zack Knight and Badshah, creating BomBae, a track blending two cultures into one which Fuse defines as ‘AfroBollywood’.
The eight piece group Trenchtown experience are the only Bob Marley tribute act that regularly uses an all-female backing vocal trio – in tribute to Marley’s own ‘I-Threes’. Expect all the classics including I Shot the Sheriff, No Woman No Cry, Get up Stand Up and Could You Be Loved.
Sunday brings the turn of Eats Everything AKA Daniel Pearce. Dubbed as one of the UK’s finest dance music exports, his forward thinking underground music has caught the attention of DJ Magazine who crowned him Best British DJ with massive hits such as Let’s Go Dancing.
Joey Negro AKA Dave Lee was one of the first artists to mix together disco samples in house music, bringing the party since ‘88. Dave has been commissioned to remix for massive artists such as Kelly Rowland, Mariah Carey, Labyrinth and the Pet Shop Boys.
Grab your disco balls Hull because it’s gonna get funkay.
L.A. based Doorly will be churning out his set on the Sunday, bringing house to Hull. The Fatboy Slim fanatic played almost 50 shows over in Ibiza last Summer. You don’t want to miss this lad.
Hull based Steve Cobby aka The Solid Doctor has worked with artists such as Radiohead, Simple Minds and Busta Rhymes. The co-founder of Fila Brazillia and Pork Recordings is also a photographer and has exhibited over at Kardomah94 in Hull. Give him a listen on Spotify here.
