Musicians, dancers and actors aged 8-25 perform a huge-scale theatrical showcase.
We Are The Future! is a showcase exploring the highs and lows of moving from childhood to adulthood. Hundreds of performers aged between 8 and 25 will come together for two spectacular performances.
The performance is the result of a flourishing collaboration between the Northern Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) and Hull Music Hub, supported by Hull UK City of Culture’s Creative Communities Programme.
NAPA runs 90 affordable courses and classes for young people, with an ethos that the confidence and creativity which can be gained from taking part in performing arts is invaluable in later life.
Barbara Dawson, CEO of NAPA said: “We Are the Future! is self-explanatory. Our city’s children truly are the future of everything, so they deserve a platform for sharing what it means to be young and free.”
The show also focuses on how the participants envisage the future of Hull and the East Riding. This will be expressed as a musical extravaganza that combines orchestral music, choral singing, dance, drama and musical theatre.
Barbara added: “Children and young adults are naturally adept at achieving their potential and embracing the journey life takes them on. It’s a wonderful thing to be young, and NAPA is ready to celebrate it to the full.”
The Albemarle Music Centre’s 60-piece youth orchestra, part of Hull Music Hub, provides a full-bodied soundtrack to complement NAPA’s 200-strong chorus of singers, dancers and selection of brilliant soloists.
This collection of talent is working under the expert supervision of conductor Paul Frankish, direct from London’s West End. Together, the performers use music, singing, dance and drama to tell the ups and downs of the transition from childhood to adulthood, from your first day at school, to your first kiss.
Barbara added: “This talented array of young performers is the next generation of creatives. They will inherit the legacy of Hull 2017 and shape our cultural landscape for years to come.”
Martin Green, CEO and director of Hull 2017, said: “Hull 2017 is not just about this year, it is also about helping to provide a platform and legacy for the future so that young people can achieve their dreams and ambitions. We Are The Future! shows that Hull’s future is a bright one.”
We Are The Future! takes place on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 June at Hull City Hall, Queen Victoria Square, Hull. Tickets cost £10.
