Call Out: emerging actors wanted for Hull 2017 and Blast Theory film project

Calling all female actors aged 16-18 from Hull and East Riding, Blast Theory need you…

At the start of your acting career and want to take the next step? Hull 2017 and Blast Theory are looking for local talent to play leading roles in sci-fi films being shot here and in our fellow cultural city Aarhus in Denmark, European Capital of Culture 2017.

Blast Theory are looking for three female actors aged 16-18 to play leading roles in 2097: We Made Ourselves Over. This year-long interactive art project connects the cities of Hull and Aarhus, asking us to reimagine our communities 80 years into the future.

The group have been making interactive artworks that invite you to question your place in society for 25 years. Renowned internationally as one of the most adventurous artists’ groups, they’ve been exploring social and political aspects of technology and how this shapes our lives.

If you’re from Hull or East Riding areas and are free to take part in filming in Hull and Aarhus during June and July, get in touch. You could be starring in a series of sci-fi film shorts to be screened online and in both cities.

Martin Green, Director of Hull 2017, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for local emerging young actresses to work with established production company Bridge Way Films, set up by Hull’s very own BAFTA award-winning and Oscar nominated Chris Hees. Not only will they have the chance to perform in their hometown during its year in the spotlight but they’ll also be able to travel to our partner city Aarhus and the result will be seen by thousands across the world.”

Think you’re up to the task? Matt Adams of Blast Theory wants you to visualise 2097: “a new era is dawning in Aarhull. Three young women Hessa, Vidya and Catreus are poised to guide their community through the demolition and reinstatement of their city.”

Adams says “This is a fantastic opportunity to work with award-winning production company Bridge Way Films which regularly produces film and television projects in the North East.

“Can you see yourself playing one of these imaginative sci-fi roles? Are you up for a challenge? If you want to help bring this vision of the future to life we’d love to hear from you!”

If this sounds like you, get touch. All you need to do is send a recent photo of yourself along with your name, age and address to casting@blasttheory.co.uk by 8 May 2017.
