7 Linda Barker Decor Ideas

Get creative with these 7 Decor Ideas from Linda Barker

Homestay is just one of the many ways you can get involved with Hull 2017 this year. Whether you’re planning on inviting your friends or family over, or wanting to make a bob or two renting out a spare room, you need to make sure whoever stays in your space has a memorable time.

Linda Barker has shown us exactly how it’s done by designing an exclusive bedroom and we’re in love with it.

We’ve taken inspiration from Linda Barker’s Instagram & Twitter accounts which give helpful tips into turning your spare room into a unique space to die for and we hope these 7 decor ideas will help inspire you to.

New bedlinen – Linda has sewn these linens for her own Homestay bedroom. Get inspired and try crafting up your own. There are also plenty of places to buy good quality, inexpensive linen. Look out for pieces that require little or no ironing.

Ceramics will add an elegant touch to any home! These came from East Yorkshire based potter Jill Ford. Tea making facilities are also a great touch. Just a couple of tea bags and a jug of milk will go down a real treat and shows you care about your guests.

Source old furniture from local antique shops. Linda picked up her’s from Emmaus, a homeless charity located on Lockwood Street, Hull who provide a home and meaningful work to more than 700 formely homeless people. Local salvage yards are also a favourite of Linda’s where you can find anything from quirky chimney pots to weather vanes, setting your space apart from the crowd.

Recycle old ‘brown’ furniture as it’s often cheap and always well made. With just a lick of paint it will instantly brighten it up. Linda recommends using Annie Sloan’s chalk paint finished with her clear wax.

If your guests are new to the city, they’ll need a handy map/ brochure to guide them around and about. Place them all on a revamped desk. Remember to include a few hand written details of where they may like to shop or visit.

Use a stencil to add character to your wardrobe

Place a book or light by the side of the bed for a personal touch and ‘freshen’ up the room with a house plant which promotes a healthy atmosphere. Give your bedroom a ‘wow’ factor by making it stand out from the crowd.
